How to judge the quality of the glass you bought?
Author:
Usually, when we buy water bottles, glass cups are preferred by many people.
Firstly, the glass material has stable performance and will not precipitate harmful substances, nor will it react chemically with beverages. Secondly, the glass surface is smooth and easy to clean.
The prices of glass cups range from a few yuan, tens to hundreds or even thousands. What is the difference between them? How do we judge the quality of the purchased glass cups?
The following 5 points may help you effectively identify.
01 Check the material
Common glass cup materials that meet safety standards on the market generally include ordinary sodium calcium glass, high borosilicate glass, crystal glass, etc.
Check the specific materials on the packaging box or certificate of conformity of the cup.
The temperature resistance of sodium calcium glass [upper left] is relatively average, and it is necessary to confirm the heat resistance range before use.
High borosilicate glass [top left] is pure and transparent, with a thermal expansion coefficient only one-third of that of ordinary glass cups. It can withstand sudden temperature differences and is recognized as a safe glass material.
Crystal glass [top left] is mostly used for wine glasses, and there is a distinction between leaded crystal glass and lead-free crystal glass. The former is harmful to the human body! The latter makes a pleasant sound when lightly flicking the cup, and the color is also relatively bright and transparent.
02 Check purity
If the glass material is impure, stripes, small bubbles, and impurities will appear on the glass drinking utensils.
Stripes - The coarse lines on the surface of the glass cup can be felt by hand, while the fine lines need to be exposed to light to be visible.
"Small bubbles" - small voids formed inside a glass due to the wrapping of air. According to the causes of formation, it can be divided into material bubbles and operational bubbles. "Operation bubbles" generally appear on the surface of glass cups, while "material bubbles" are hidden in deeper areas.
According to the industry standard of "Double layered Glass Cup" in 2017, bubbles can exist in the cup body, but there are strict requirements for the diameter and quantity of bubbles. 0.5mm ≤ diameter ≤ 1.5mm, there can be one, three, and densely packed bubbles should not be present.
Impurity precipitation - the absence of melted white granular silica sand or other particulate impurities within the glass body.
Due to the different coefficients of expansion between sand and glass, slight collision or temperature changes may cause detachment from the glass body, resulting in glass cracking.
03 Check if the design is standard
There are generally several types of non-standard shapes:
1. The surface of the cup body is not smooth.
2. Observe the drinking utensils under light, and there are cracks, marks, etc.
3. The geometric shape is not correct, the circle is not round, it should be flat, it should be straight.
If it is not an irregular glass cup, the mouth and bottom of the cup should be regular and horizontal circles.
Non standard glass products not only affect aesthetics, but are also prone to damage.
04 Check if the thickness of the cup is even
Observing the cup in front of the light, if the light sensation is consistent and integrated in all parts, it indicates that the thickness is consistent; If there is a significant difference in brightness between different areas, it indicates that the thickness is inconsistent.
If the cup is too thick, heat transfer is slow and it is prone to cracking; If the cup is too thin, it has low strength and is not sturdy.
The bottom of a typical cup is slightly thicker, and the walls are slightly thinner than the bottom.
05 Finally, check the machining accuracy of the cup
If all four of the above points are met, the quality of the cup is basically [OK].
On this basis, some detailed designs that enhance user experience truly test the skills and patience of producers, and it is also a reflection of whether a brand truly pursues good products.
After all, polishing details will increase time, labor, and material costs.
1. Cup lid. Exquisite processing, high precision, and compatible with the cup body.
2. Cup mouth thread. The cup mouth is round and thick, the thread is smooth and standard, the twisting is smooth, there is no noise, and the wrist is effortless.
3. Return cover. The selected materials are of high quality, odorless, and will not react chemically with water droplets. At the same time, it can allow water droplets to flow back into the cup through the lid, making it difficult for them to drip out of the cup.
4. Cup bottom. Thickening the bottom of the cup and using special techniques to remove water ripples can enhance the practicality and aesthetics of the cup.
