The correct way to use a decanter

Author:

Ensure that the cocktail shaker is clean and dry, avoiding dust inside the shaker affecting the flavor of the wine or water droplets diluting the taste of the wine.

Check for any sediment in the wine and leave it upright for a few days before opening the bottle to allow the sediment to concentrate at the bottom of the bottle for removal during bottle replacement.

When opening the bottle, be gentle and avoid shaking the bottle and stirring the sediment. Gently pour the red wine into the decanter. If there is a large amount of sediment, a filter can be added to the mouth of the decanter to filter the sediment, and then the liquor can be left in the decanter for a period of time.

When pouring wine into a decanter, be careful to let the wine flow towards the bottle wall (instead of pouring vertically into the bottom of the bottle). The wine flowing along the bottle wall can maximize the contact between the wine and oxygen, and the decanter can also be shaken to speed up the decanting process.

The specific time for sobering up depends on the type of red wine. For example, heavy bodied red wine needs to wake up for 1-2 hours, while some cheap wines only need to wake up for 20 minutes. During the process of sobering up, one can continuously smell the aroma in the red wine glass and feel its changes. When the aroma of red wine becomes more rich and complex, it can be enjoyed.

Please note that prolonged decanting time may lead to excessive oxidation of the aroma and taste of red wine, thereby affecting its quality.
